Revenue and Tax

The Challenge In Revenue and Tax Is To Improve Customer Service, Reduce Costs and Increase Revenue

No one likes paying taxes, but effective tax administration provides funds for public services and enables economic growth, and tax-paying builds a sense of community and shared responsibility.

With most governments facing funding pressures, tax authorities need to do “more with less” and reduce the tax gap by closing loopholes, increasing revenue collection, and detecting non-compliance.

Revenue and tax authorities also want to increase compliance by making things simpler for taxpayers. Taxpayers (and politicians) want new ways of interacting with services available whether online or over the telephone. . .around the clock. They also want citizen-centric services that are less complex and reduce the cost of compliance for businesses and private individuals.

It's a multifaceted problem, and governments need an IT partner who knows how to navigate this complex system.

Results

Australian Taxation Office – Recognizing that new tax legislation would require extensive changes to its business systems, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) seized the opportunity to upgrade its older IT infrastructure, expand its mobile computing capabilities and open dozens of new offices.

The ATO faced a three-fold challenge: find a full-service provider to implement and manage the new IT infrastructure, transition service delivery responsibility to the new provider, and prepare to deliver the new tax system. Since legislation was being developed concurrently with system development, infrastructure flexibility was crucial.

HP assumed all IT responsibilities in less than three months, deploying the mobile infrastructure needed to support 3,000 field officers, replacing nearly 14,000 older PCs, and significantly boosting telecommunications, mainframe and midrange capacity so the ATO could focus on core functions.
