To more effectively compete during the impending deregulation of the Spanish energy market, leaders at Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico knew they needed to revamp their aging information systems. The utility decided to outsource management of its entire IT environment to EDS. Collaborating closely with the utility, we detailed its processes and implemented a new, scalable enterprise system based on SAP R/3 and SAP IS-U. We also implemented quality-control methodologies to help lower total overall IT costs. Since implementation, the utility's systems have easily kept up as Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico has doubled its energy production while expanding its customer base by 75 percent.
