NMCI Enhanced Intranet Performance By Virtualizing Servers
The Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the largest private intranet in the world, needed to guarantee Department of Navy personnel could communicate mission-critical information 24/7. HP established and has maintained the IT infrastructure for nearly a decade. We determined it could optimize operations even further through virtualization with VMware ESX. This ultimately saves NMCI valuable time, space, and resources.
The first phase of the ongoing initiative involved consolidating more than 2,700 physical servers down to 300 Intel® Xeon® processor-based hosts, which minimized outage minutes by 44%. With its enhanced capabilities, NMCI can now identify issues, distribute resources to maximize asset utilization, quickly rebuild servers from virtual images and fluctuate capacity on demand to ensure increased availability in a variety of circumstances.
