When this telecommunications operator wanted to seal its success in a highly competitive market by cutting costs and enhancing customer service, EDS developed a strategic plan to achieve both goals: migrate Telefônica's mainframe IT environment to an EDS Service Management Center (SMC).
EDS moved more than 31 terabytes of stored data and 1.5 tons of equipment from Telefônica's Data Center in Alphaville, Brazil to the EDS SMC in Sao Bernardo do Campo, nearly 70 kilometers away, all in a holiday weekend. The migration was complete in 55 hours and now ensures Telefônica customers and employees 100 percent uptime as well as 24/7 support. And the company saved US$1 million in IT costs within the first two months of the migration.
