User End-Point Data Storage Encryption

Content starts here

HP has identified that the protection of personally identifiable, corporate proprietary or otherwise sensitive information is an issue of increasing concern to corporate leaders. This trend has generally been driven by the increase in regulation and legislation regarding the protection of certain types of data.

Rather than preventing this type of data from being stored on user-controlled end-points, or specifically trying to identify and protect the sensitive data, corporate leaders have tended to protect all of the data stored on these types of devices.

Although the reasons behind the decision to encrypt all of the data stored at the user-controlled end-point have become relatively static, the techniques and technologies available for addressing the business needs are still very dynamic. The business demand for this type of technology has initially driven both innovation by hardware vendors and industry consolidation within the software industry. Our expectation is that this particular phase is now nearing the end, and the industry will increasingly focus on the improvement of features incorporated within the products they offer, as well as the incorporation of new features. In addition to these trends, the need for new protective measures will continue to be introduced into corporate environments by increasing legislative and regulatory requirements in the area of security and especially privacy.
