The mantra “If we build it, they will come” is no longer true in today’s fast-changing society. Yesterday’s world of vendor and product-driven marketing has been replaced by consumer- and service-driven demand. As a result of this shift, the focus of the telecommunications industry is that of a telecommunications-driven digital ecosystem in support of the consumer-driven digital lifestyle.
The interaction between this ecosystem and the consumer lifestyle creates new business opportunities for communications service providers (CSPs). At the same time, CSPs need to understand the customer’s view in this fluid ecosystem. These customers are known as “agile telecommunications customers,” as they want to leverage the components they already have, while enabling new functionality at an ever faster speed. This increasing demand for change requires that a CSP prepare itself for constant change.
