Move Emphasizes New Role, Leverages Power of HP Brand

As of today, and where permitted by local country law, the EDS business unit of HP will change its name to HP Enterprise Services. The name change emphasizes the business unit’s global role as the enterprise technology services component of HP’s portfolio. It supports a yearlong effort to transfer to HP the strong services brand equity that EDS has built over nearly 50 years. Additionally, it places the global power and recognition of the HP brand behind EDS’s robust technology services portfolio.

The brand update comes one year after HP announced the acquisition of EDS and is a critical milestone as the integration of EDS into HP nears completion.

Looking To The Future

“I see this as the next chapter in a long and distinguished history of IT services,” says Joe Eazor, senior vice president and general manager of HP Enterprise Services. “And we want to bring that history with us, shifting to HP the industry knowledge, IT expertise and commitment to delivering operational excellence that always defined EDS. I think the EDS legacy can also enhance the already-powerful HP brand, and take it even further.”

HP is one of the world’s leading companies – No. 9 of the Fortune 500, No. 12 on Interbrand’s top global brands, No. 7 on BusinessWeek’s Most Innovative Companies and No. 30 on [BusinessWeek’s] Most Admired Companies list.”

“As the integration with HP nears completion, we want to look to the future,” Eazor says. “We want to assure current EDS clients that they will still receive outstanding service from their trusted business ally. And at the same time, we want to introduce our current HP clients and prospects to who we are and to our vast new capabilities.

““We are the same organization that pioneered technology services and the same people who continue to lead that industry. Now we give clients enhanced value through the best-in-class innovation and cutting-edge technology of HP for seamless, end-to-end support that they can’t get from any other company.”

Decades Of Innovation

EDS was founded in 1962 and established the information technology outsourcing industry. It is credited with many of the practices that are central to the industry today, including systems management; systems integration; centralized transaction processing; and private digital voice, data and video networks. The company was acquired by HP in the latter half of 2008. Today, HP Enterprise Services delivers one of the industry’s broadest portfolios of infrastructure technology, applications and business process outsourcing services.

“Our focus is on the end result and the technology that gets them there.”
– David Gee, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at HP Enterprise Services

“Our clients expect us to harness the full power of HP’s extended portfolio to solve their business challenges,” Eazor says. “By aligning our name and brand under HP, we send a consistent message that we’re going to market as a single, formidable force and that we are fully committed to EDS being a part of HP and its success.

“As we begin this new chapter in our history, the traits that have defined us for nearly 50 years remain the same,” he says.

Unwavering Standards

Eazor adds that EDS has continued to deliver exceptional service to its clients during its integration into HP. “Throughout the transition, our dedication to service excellence has never wavered,” he says.

“It’s that kind of innovative spirit, commitment to service quality and relentless dedication to our clients that will continue to stand out as key competitive differentiators for us and help us deliver more to the market.”

And client success, says David Gee, vice president of worldwide marketing at HP Enterprise Services, is a driving force behind the rebranding effort. “Our business unit is helping to redefine the company and propelling it to the top of the IT services sector,” Gee says. “Our objective is very simple: build the leading IT services business on the planet so that we can do more for our clients.”

Owning The Outcome

To achieve this objective, Gee says, HP Enterprise Services will rely on innovation and differentiation.

“We will continue to be positioned in the marketplace as a proven and trusted ally that delivers ‘business outcomes as a service’ to our clients,” Gee says. “We will help our clients be more productive, innovative and secure, so they can grow – or, in the case of government, more efficiently deliver services to citizens. We will do this through technology delivered as a service: global and mobile, location independent, device independent, scalable and accessible.”

So what does delivering “business outcomes as a service” mean? “Our clients care about outcomes,” Gee says. “They take a systematic and methodical approach to business, processes, systems and structures. IT has become central and vital to achieving organizational business goals. It is core to the way business gets done every day and can be a powerful tool to open up bold new opportunities.”

“So, rather than talking to our clients about technology – about machines and hardware and chips and bits – we talk to our clients about what technology can do for them,” says Gee. “We talk to them about results like faster production lines, more bookings, simplified service delivery to the public, enhanced performance and increased sales. Our focus is on the end result and the technology that gets them there.”

Gee says that HP Enterprise Services is a first-rate technology services provider that delivers all four of the critical elements clients need to customize IT for a changing business climate:

  • Flexible technology and sourcing – adaptable, integrated products and services delivered your way
  • Practical innovation – the ability to meet your business challenges by turning “what if” questions into inventive, relevant solutions and services
  • Collaborative expertise – an experienced, proven ally who understands your business needs and speaks the language of your industry
  • Operational excellence – Scalable, global delivery capabilities and resources that enable consistent, high-quality, cost-effective service delivery anywhere in the world you require it

“This unique blend produces the seamless, consistent experience our clients expect from the leader in IT services and positions them for the road ahead,” says Gee.

Eazor adds that the commitment to delivering and owning outcomes will be reinforced through the HP Enterprise Services brand promise: “We deliver the outcomes that matter most … Yours.”

“HP Enterprise Services delivers this better than anyone in the industry,” Eazor says. “We’re phasing out the EDS name and logo at a global level but keeping the technology services equity we’ve built since 1962. We have earned our clients’ trust and loyalty over the last five decades because we have proven that we will not only deliver the service but we will own the outcome. We’re not successful until our clients are successful.”
