Platform Helps Airline Migrate to New Inventory System
PLANO, Texas and ZURICH, Switzerland – EDS today announced the successful development and completion of Lufthansa's service oriented architecture (SOA), a middleware, messaging and security platform that allows the airline to interface, interoperate and integrate with their business partners and other global airline systems through open standards. Lufthansa utilized the platform to optimize data exchange between the airline's new inventory system and existing applications.
EDS built and implemented Lufthansa's SOA, which provides a structured flow of information between the airline’s new inventory system and 40 other client applications.
“Migration to the new inventory system was incredibly smooth and seamless to the end-user,” said Christoph Ganswindt, senior vice president and CIO, Lufthansa Passenger Airlines. “Collaboration with the team at EDS was a crucial factor in the on-time and successful delivery of the project.”
“We are proud of helping Lufthansa reduce costs and upgrade to more innovative technology,” said Pierre Klatt, vice president and leader of EDS EMEA Transportation Industry Group. “Our delivery teams worked hard on meeting all our clients demands in a very challenging environment, and this project solidifies our proven ability to deliver high-quality support for all aspects of airline environments.”
“In today's competitive environment, clients expect seamless interaction of air carriers, travel agencies, hotels and other players in the global Transportation supply chain,” said Jim Dullum, vice president and leader of EDS' Global Transportation Industry Group. “Various information technology systems and ever changing regulations require more robust integration efforts, and airlines can achieve this by embedding a SOA platform into their IT fabric.”
EDS Agility Alliance partners including, Oracle, Sun, EMC, Cisco and Microsoft, and technology alliance partners, TIBCO and BEA, played key roles in developing portions of the team airline SOA solution.
As the leading global airline IT services provider, EDS brings world-class technology solutions and infrastructure to help airlines and transportation customers sustain competitive advantage in a highly dynamic global market.
