It's about business continuity. Whether the data is mission critical or just part of everyday transactions, every bit and byte plays a role. And when you can't access that data, the problems start.
HP protects and restores it all. We help you find the right solution for your needs. And make sure your business stays on track.
We use globally standardized tools, processes and methodologies to help you achieve a “transformed state” – one that more closely aligns storage costs with the value the data has to your business. And as your requirements change, our overall approach and technical solution provides a flexible, disciplined and innovative environment – one responsive to current and future business needs.
With our experienced project management and industry-certified processes, we align the transition, migration and transformation of our storage solution to your technology strategies and key business objectives. This allows you to reduce long-term storage costs, improve service levels, mitigate risk and adjust to seasonal business cycles.
Service Levels Based On Data's Business Value
Using four data classifications, service levels are based on the data's business value and requirements for cost-effective protection throughout its lifecycle. Service levels provide flexibility from a basic tape-based backup to high-performance online data replication among multiple locations.
Traditional approaches for backup services focus on the backup window as one of the relevant metrics. We move the focus to the more relevant aspects of recovery time objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO):
- Recovery Time Objective (RTO) – The objective time to recover data so it is available to a client
- Recovery Point Objective (RPO) – The objective point in time to which data must be restored; often thought of as the time between the last available backup and the time a disruption occurred
You can choose RPOs ranging from days to the last transaction and RTOs ranging from days to less than a minute.
The following graphic illustrates the tiered Backup and Restore Services we propose for your solution.

Backup and Restore services can be deployed from your site or dedicated in HP Service Management Center (SMC) facilities. Some or all of these services may be right for your total solution:
- Replication Services – designed with local and remote geographic options to protect the most demanding and crucial information by creating duplicate copies at one or more locations
- RPO: last data sync
- RTO: 1 hour
- Options include: Local Replication, Asynchronous Remote Replication and/or Synchronous Remote Replication
- Data Center Backup – offers options for traditional tape and disk backup solutions for the entire data center with built-in compression, clearly defined levels of service, and utility pricing
- RPO: last backup cycle
- RTO: depends on volume and media
- Disk: minutes to hours
- Tape: hours to days
- Remote Backup Service – provides automated, encrypted backups over the network to a central backup location for distributed servers in remote offices over the network to a central backup location with quick, consistent recovery
- RPO: daily
- RTO: hours to days
- Mobile Information Protection – provides laptop and desktop users automatic encrypted backup over the network to a central backup location and quick recovery of lost files
- RPO: daily
- RTO: hours
