Technology Solutions That Streamline Teamwork

You need a solution that pulls your team together, no matter where they are. A solution that boosts workforce productivity, streamlines travel and increases resource sharing.

Our solution uses collaborative tools across your enterprise, allowing geographically dispersed knowledge workers to join forces in a virtual environment where communicating, sharing, managing, and consuming information easily is the norm.

Solution Components

Your collaboration solution leverages the latest Microsoft toolsets and integrates with the software components already on your users' desktops. Servers located in EDS data centers deliver your services and make them accessible from all platforms and devices. In addition to the Microsoft platform, your collaboration solution will use:

  • Real-Time Collaboration (RTC): Synchronous communication capabilities such as audio, video, data and other natural interfaces based on Microsoft Office Communicator (OCS 2007)
  • Team Collaboration: Basic workflow and document management functionality plus workspaces (site collections) built on SharePoint Services WSS 3.0
  • Enterprise Collaboration: Building on Team Collaboration, enterprisewide features support document management, search, workflow, portals and personalized sites in a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) environment

The collaboration solution also includes:

  • Administration and operation of the supporting infrastructure
  • Security for collaborative communications, including administration, secured access and virus protection
  • Integration with corporate identity management systems, such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Active Directory (AD)
  • Scalable delivery from an EDS data center, which provides high reliability and security

Real-Time Collaboration Package

Real-Time Collaboration Services is based on Microsoft® Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 and combines an enterprise-ready instant messaging (IM) presence, conferencing and unified communications capability in a single solution. From their personal computers (PCs) or mobile devices, users can contact and interact with the right people inside or outside your enterprise.

Real-Time Collaboration Services provides rich presence capabilities, strong administrative controls, federation and public IM connectivity, and virtual conferencing all within a secure, dedicated environment, whether hosted on your premises or in an EDS data center.

The OCS architecture, which enables secure communications between users inside your network as well as between intra- and extra-network users and devices, is shown in the graphic below.

EDS simplifies deployment of the Real-Time Collaboration package and provides standard processes to manage the service. Microsoft's advancements in OCS 2007 are concentrated in four functional areas: presence, conferencing, enhanced Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and compliance. Your proposed Real-Time Collaboration solution includes:

You'll get simplified deployment of RTC along with standard processes for ongoing management. RTC Services provide:

  • Instant Messaging (IM) & Presence Awareness: Enables users to exchange text messages in real time (“chat”). Presence awareness enables an employee to detect another user's availability on one or more devices
  • On-Premise Web Conferencing: Connects and engages audience in online meetings, training and events through hosted services. Allows users to share text, files, whiteboards, presentations and remote terminal sessions
  • Audio/Visual Conferencing: Allows users to add other modes of communication to IM conversations such as voice or video
  • Enterprise Voice: Provides the bridge between data and voice for voice enablement. Users can place a telephone call from a PC by selecting a name from their IM lists.
  • Archiving/Call Detail Record: Provides users with archives of all interaction with OCS (i.e. IM conversations, meeting content and records of meeting start/end)
  • Web Access: Enables IM services through a browser client. This option is great for a non-Windows operating system (OS) such as Mac and Linux
  • External Enterprise Access: Enables IM access from outside your network for home users, mobile users, PIC users and/or users from another company
  • Mobile Access: Allows mobile devices to use IM
  • Public Internet Access: Facilitates the use of IM between public Instant Messaging providers such as MSN, AOL and Yahoo and your in-house systems
  • Federated Access: Facilitates the use of IM between you and other companies

Real Time Collaboration complements – but does not replace – e-mail and telephone use. However, greater reliance on IM reduces e-mail traffic and telephone expenses. IM provides access for quick conversations, fast responses and real-time resolution of problems by enabling inter-workgroup cooperation and shortening the problem-solving cycle time. It also allows real-time communication with mobile employees and geographically dispersed workgroups.

Real-Time Collaboration Implementation & Management

EDS' experienced staff will implement your new RTC environment. While your teams build and maintain their own sites and content, we configure, install, deploy and maintain the overall SharePoint environment.

Team and Enterprise Collaboration Services

Although Team Collaboration and Enterprise Collaboration are sister packages with some similarities, they are separate service packages with no upgrade path from team to enterprise.

Team Collaboration Package

The Team Collaboration package, based on Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 collaboration platform, offers a common framework for document management and a common repository for storing documents of all types.

SharePoint provides the following activities:

  • Sharing information through presence awareness
  • Using wikis and blogs
  • Collaborating on and publishing documents
  • Maintaining task lists
  • Conducting surveys
  • Developing and maintaining site templates customized for specific business uses
  • Implementing workflows

Site content is accessible from a Web browser and allows for easy check in, check out and document version control. Team Collaboration Services are integrated with e-mail and other office applications.

You can access the environment from a browser or directly through MS Office applications. Team Collaboration Services are comprised of the following:

  • Workspaces: Site content is accessible from both a Web browser and through clients that support Web Services. Document collaboration features allow easy check in, check out and document version control
  • Application Anti-Virus: Provides the necessary anti-virus solutions for the applications that facilitate file sharing and file transfer
  • External Enterprise Connectivity: Enables cross-company collaboration as well as external companies
  • Mobile Device Access: Allows mobile users to access Team Collaboration features wirelessly

SharePoint Framework – Base

SharePoint Framework – Base Services provide consulting, application design, processes and tools for effective implementation and enterprise management. Using this standard and consistent framework, EDS can construct a work environment quickly and with minimal customization. At the same time, we can effectively manage, administer and control your Team Collaboration environment while addressing processes, governance and security.

Base features of SharePoint Framework include:

  • Support Center Setup: Provides a centralized support structure pre-populated with request forms, answers to frequently asked questions, requests, processes, training and statistics. Site security recommendations are also included
  • Master Page Creation: Creates a workspace page template that displays a base user interface with the client's logo, a footer and key links
  • Site Provisioning Tool: Creates a workspace based on selected options determined by workflow

SharePoint Framework – Deluxe

In addition to the base features, the deluxe features of the SharePoint Framework include:

  • Customized Templates: EDS will follow standard processes to specifically develop, test and deploy customized workspaces
